“Kalamanthan 2017”

 

 “Art is one of the most important and powerful expression in life. Life without melodies and harmonies would be totally empty”.

 

G G International Schoolcelebrated its Annual Day on 8 December 2017 based on the theme “KalamanthanA Divine Synthesis of Performing Arts”.

 

Renowned artist and Bharatnatyam danseuse, Ms. Shweta Prachande was the esteemed Chief Guest for the evening. Also present was Dr Deepshikha Pathak, a well-known Hindustani Music exponent as the Guest of Honour,Shri Jaiprakashji Goel, Chairman of the Goel Ganga Foundation, Col. Sambhaji Patil, Chairman - Advisory board, Mr S.B.Mantri, Member-Advisory Board, Mr Arun Gupta and Ms Sonu Gupta Director and Chief Mentor – GGIS.

 

The evening commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the luminaries in attendance. In her welcome speech, Ms. Bharti Bhagwani, the Principal of GGIS highlighted the importance of parental involvement in a child’s development and exhorted them to invest quality time in their children. The cultural programme, performed by the students of Classes V to XI took the audience through the birth of art, its struggle for form and order…finally to the culmination – the Nirmitee.

 

While the Act of Mahabali transported the viewers to God’s own country – Kerala with the harvest dance and the boat race, fusion dance performances of Mohini Attam, Kathak, Lavni, Odissi and Bharatnatyam to the accompaniment of classical instruments and choir singers garnered a lot of applause. Drama as a form of art was represented beautifully through Ruth – a story of sacrifice and Bernard Shaw’s celebrated Pygmalion. Sand and Water Art as the backdrop to poetry recitations was highly appreciated and the Ghoomar Dance set the stage on fire paving way for the Grand Finale.

 

Ms. Shweta Prachande, the Chief Guest, in her speech, extolled the virtues of art and appreciated the management of GGIS for giving due importance to the various art forms in their curriculum. The Guest of Honour, Dr Deepshikha Pathak urged students to pursue art diligently, a sentiment shared by Ms. Sonu Gupta, Director and Chief Mentor – GGIS, who in her speech, expounded the importance of art in maintaining a balance in body, mind and soul. Mr. Nayak, a member of the parent body moved the Vote of Thanks, appreciating the efforts of the School management, staff and the children in put up a scintillating show. The evening ended with the rendition of the School Song and the National Anthem by the School Choir and the Teachers. A truly glittering evening!
